Writing:
I would like to introduce you to the six
traits of writing. I will be evaluating your student on their
ability to use the following: ideas, organization, voice, sentence
fluency, word choice, and conventions. The policies page contains
a writing rubric that will be helpful to you. It describes what
your child's writing should contain. Students will occasionally
bring home rough drafts that will require your help in editting.
We will be working with
these six traits in depth all year.
Math:
All grade level standards will be
taught. Your student will be expected to know their
multiplication facts well by the end of the year. This will
promote speed and confidence
in multiplying and dividing multiple digit numbers. Our math
program is vigorous and challenging. Expect homework daily.
Reading:
I have been well trained in the Houghton
Mifflin Reading Series used by the district. Your child will be
challenged by the use of Guided Reading, Independent Reading, and
Shared Reading on a daily basis. Reading skills will be taught
through the use of literature whenever possible and your student will
be responding to their reading in a variety of ways.
Social
Studies and Science:
These topics will be taught through the use of
highly engaging and in-depth units throughout the school year.
